Stump grinders (sometimes called stump cutters) are either a stand-alone power tool or an equipment attachment that removes tree stumps by chipping away the wood with the stump grinder's rotating cutting disk.

Stump grinders range in size depending on the size of the stump; the smallest start at the size of a home lawn mower, with the larger stump grinders being as large as a truck. Most stump grinders perform their stump grinding through the use of a high-speed disk with teeth that grind the stump and roots into small chips.
