Is this tree too close to my home?
Is this tree too close to my home?
Living in Washington state, we are prone to high wind storms that are capable of uprooting or snapping large trees in half. This ultimately can cause thousands of dollars of damage to your home or vehicle. First assess the situation and determine a few things. Is the tree dead?
Does the hazardous tree pose a threat to my home or surrounding homes? How much will it cost to remove the hazardous tree? Will this affect my curb appeal?
Hazardous Tree Removal - Next step is to hire a tree service company that is certified.
Hiring an arborist is a decision that should not be taken lightly. Many Arborists' companies in the industry have no technical training and their advice is given for monetary motivations. Make sure they are ISA Certified Arborist and Certified Tree Risk Assessors. If they are, they can assess the trees and shrubs on your property and prioritize management according to hazards, health issues, practical issues, and aesthetics. They will determine the timing and type of pruning necessary to improve and maintain the health, appearance and safety of your trees, and schedule maintenance programs to work within your budget. All of their pruning should be done according to the American National Standards Institute for (ANSI A300). This standard requires that the recommended use of certain tools, cutting techniques and tree pruning methods be followed, and sets standard definitions. Make sure they have the experience to remove large hazardous trees and that they are licensed, bonded and insured just in case any of your vehicles, property or home are damaged while removing the tree.
Tree Removal Company Reputation:
Check to see if they are registered with the Better Business Bureau. Are they affiliated with any other associations to verify their reputation?
Price can vary from company to company. Usually a larger tree service company can offer a cheaper price and shorter time frame to get the job done. Acquire several tree removal price quotes from a few different companies. Also make sure that all permits are taken care of by the tree company unless you plan on doing that yourself.
Honestly, your best option when hiring a Tree Service company to remove your hazardous tree is to go with your instinct. The safety of your family is most important.
